PC to Android Audio Streaming

Do you want to use your PC as a media server to stream your playlist on your Android while you roam around your house? Wanna replace your broken headset with your Android? If your answer is yes, then say hello to SoundWire.

What is SoundWire?

SoundWire lets you send any music (“what you hear now”) from your PC to your Android mobile devices or other PCs. Use it as:
– A wireless extension of your PC-based music system for parties
– A remote headphone amp
– A way to listen to music and movies from your computer anywhere in your house or out on your deck.

This is not just another file streaming app… you can use any music player on your PC or laptop like Grooveshark, Spotify, YouTube, or iTunes and feed the sound directly to your Android device.

And yah, it requires WiFi..

Here’s how you can use your Android and your wired headsets to get wireless experience:

  1. Visit Georgielabs and download the SoundWire server for your PC. There’s currently support for Windows 7 (also works on Windows 8) and Windows XP. There ain’t a version for the Mac or Linux OS yet.
  2. Unzip the file and install the server on your PC.
  3. Now, Install the SoundWire, which is free (there’s also a paid version of it, who cares about it anyway!!) mobile app on your Android device.
  4. Make sure that both the PC and your Android devices are connected to a common WiFi network, then run both the applications.
  5. Type the server address you’ll find on the SoundWire Server window (note: the status will be disconnected) on the SoundWire screen on your Android device and tap the SoundWire icon which will link the app with the server. Then, the status on the SoundWire Server window will turn Connected.

All set, now you can spy on your friend’s Skype conversations. Just kidding 😀

Don’t forget to make sure you have plenty of WiFi connectivity for a lag free wireless experience.
